FLOW CHARACTERISTIC OF GLASS WOOL MELTS

The objective is to find a relationship between the content of raw material batches for glass wool and changes in the fibre-forming properties of the melt material by investigation and optimisation of combinations of raw material batches.

The mineralwool melting furnace at Glafo was rebuilt in 2010, and this year's project will involve more melt trials. The first comparision is with two different sorts of cullet. This will require careful analysis of the composition of the cullet, as well as determination of the viscosity of the two samples. Two further trials will be carried out during the year, but it has not yet been decided which variables will be varied.
