GLASS WOOL – MEASURING THE SUITABILITY OF THE GLASS INVOLVED

The aim of the investigation is to measure changes in the fibre-forming characteristics of the glass produced when changes in the glass fragments used as raw material are made, the latter changes being above all in regard to the additives the raw material in question contains.

In the project carried out, measurements for comparison purposes complementing earlier ones and providing a more adequate statistical basis for classifying measurements made on the glass-production samples studied will be obtained, both for Glava and for Isovere.

Measurements of the fibre-forming characteristics of glass-production samples taken in each case during a specific period of time will be obtained, using special equipment developed for this purpose.

Samples will be classified as being of high, moderate or low quality in terms of their fibre-forming characteristics. Note will also be taken of differences between samples in the additives these contain. Relations between results for the fibre-forming characteristics of the various samples and the type of raw materials used in producing the glass will be studied.
