HARD
GLASS SURFACES
The aim is to obtain more information about the glass’s sensitivity
to scratching and how this can be investigated.
Background
In the course of the preliminary study “Methods for maintaining,
cleaning and repairing glass surfaces”, it was found that in finished
buildings, there exists surface coatings and changes caused by airborne
contaminants and also by weather and wind. The biggest problem however
is scratching.
Problems such as
suction marks, scratches and moisture damage can occur even before the
glass is installed. The preliminary study shows that scratches are a
problem and that there is scope here for further investigation.
Procedure
The project will entail a literature study aimed at the sensitivity
of the glass to scratching, and also how the glass can be improved in
order to reduce its sensitivity to scratching. A proposal will be produced
for a suitable method for testing sensitivity to scratching, and this
will be tested on a number of samples of coated and non-coated glass.
