THE EFFECT OF GLASS COMPOSITION ON HARDNESS


The aim is to study variations in hardness for different mineral wool compositions.

Background
In the project "Glass structure in mineral wool" a study was made of four melts made from different raw materials but with similar final compositions. During analysis somewhat different results were obtained for the melts. We do not know at present how crystallisation affects hardness, and will study this further.

Implementation
In the project, the influence of titanium on crystallisation will be studied. Melts will be made with and without titanium and other nucleation agents. The hardness of different melts will be determined.
