REPLACEMENT OF BORON IN ART GLASS
The aim is to remove boron from art glass without impairing the properties
of the glass.
Work will commence with a survey of the art glass batches in question.
The properties of the glass, with and without boron, will be calculated
and in the final phase control measurements will be made. The properties
that are of the greatest interest, apart from crystallisation, are viscosity,
thermal expansion and chemical resistance.
In the final phase,
some of the newly developed glass will be melted at pilot scale at a
glassworks to verify its properties, and to provide a basis for further
studies.
