SELENIUM RUBY GLASS


The aim is to develop a Selenium Ruby glass that can be produced on an industrial scale.

Selenium Ruby is an environmentally friendly pink colour. A selenium ruby without fining agent has been produced for some time at laboratory scale. Evaporation of selenium has however been too extensive for industrial production.

A number of variations in glass composition have been tested in laboratory scale to see if the original selenium colour can be strengthened. We have now also made tests on adding the fining agent that is needed for industrial production.

Tests will be performed in order to reduce evaporation. We will also make further tests to get refining to work with the colour retained.
