Cullet is received from a number of recycled glass firms and from flat glass, and may contain certain impurities such as stones, ceramics and porcelain. Variations in the chemical composition of the recycled glass are balanced by adding genuine raw materials. In spite of this, during certain periods there are variations in fibration properties which result in products of inferior properties. The flowability of the melt is to be studied at laboratory scale in a specially designed furnace built for the project. A number of methods will be developed for measuring the flowability of the melt at fibration temperature. Melting tests with
different types of raw materials and batches will be made and optimised
with regard to flowability and energy use. The tendency of the melt
to crystallise will also be studied. |
