PRESS
RELEASE June 10, 2008
SP Group acquires Glafo Glass Research Institute
From 1 July the Swedish Glass Research Institute – Glafo AB –
will be part of SP, the Technical Research Institute of Sweden. “As
part of a bigger group we will be able to deliver better value to our
clients. It will also give us new opportunities to take part in even
larger projects at the forefront of development,” says
Bertil Fredlund, Managing Director of Glafo.
Glafo has established its expertise in art glass and operates in the
heart of the region known as the Kingdom of Glass. The institute also
works with utility glass, glass sheet, fibre glass and glass packaging.
Glafo and SP now intend to combine their resources in areas such as
glass and construction, where their operations complement each other.
“Glafo
will extend our know-how in the glass construction field and give us
an even stronger position as a building research institute,”
says Maria Khorsand, CEO of the SP Group.
SP will own 60 per cent of
Glafo AB, and the remaining 40 per cent will be owned by Glafo’s
stakeholder association. The amalgamation will have benefits for customers
of both Glafo and SP, since they will have access to the broad expertise
and extensive resources of the Group. It will also strengthen the partnership
between the SP Group and the universities of Växjö and Lund.
